" Mushihicha " is a project by Maruoka of the Graduate School of Agriculture at Kyoto University. Noting that moth larvae droppings have a unique scent that reflects the characteristics of the leaves they have eaten, he has fed various insects with various plants, including cherry blossoms, and collected and tasted the droppings. Combining the elements of color, taste, and scent that appeal to the five senses with the results of chemical aroma analysis and liquid analysis, he has collected droppings with particularly excellent scents from various regions of Japan.
Mitosaya has collaborated with Mushihicha to create a special spirit called "LEPI TRAIL." This spirit, which means the trail of insects, is made from the droppings of the moth larvae of the Japanese moth, the "Oshimo-furisume" and the "Oo-mozu-ao" that eat cherry blossom leaves.
Their droppings have a rich, sakura mochi-like fragrance, which is a characteristic of cherry blossom leaves, and each has the characteristics of a different season. The droppings of the Greater Peacock Moth are collected from larvae that feed on cherry blossom leaves in late spring, and are characterized by a sweet, deep fragrance. On the other hand, the droppings of the Large Water Moth are produced from leaves in early summer, and are distinctively fresh.
The droppings of the Great Water Moth were soaked in spirits and distilled to bring out the pure flavor of cherry blossoms. In addition, to adjust the alcohol content, Mushihicha tea made from the droppings of the Great Brown Sparrow was used, bringing out the aromas of the two types of droppings in different ways and finally fusing them together. When you put it in your mouth, the fruity and rich aroma of cherry blossoms spreads.

“ Mushihicha Chu-hi-cha ” is a project by Dr. Maruoka of the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University. Focusing on the fact that moth larvae feces have a unique aroma reflecting the characteristics of the leaves they eat, plants various including cherry blossoms have been fed to various insects, and the feces have been collected and tasted. By synthesizing color, taste, and aroma elements that appeal to the senses with the results of chemical aroma and liquid analysis, we have collected a variety of feces from various regions of Japan that have particularly outstanding aromas.
In collaboration with “Chu-hi-cha”, MITOSAYA has created a special spirit called LEPI TRAIL. This spirit, which means “insect trail,” is made from the feces of the moth larvae “Oshimofurisume” and “Oomizuao,” which are the larvae of moths that feed on cherry leaves.
The feces has a rich aroma similar to that of cherry blossom cake, an aromatic ingredient unique to cherry leaves, and each has its own seasonal characteristics. The feces of the giant tree sparrow is collected from the larvae that feed on cherry leaves in late spring, and is characterized by a sweet, deep fragrance. On the other hand, the Great Mallow poop is produced from the leaves in early summer and has a distinctly fresh flavor.
The cherry blossom flavor is brought out in its purest form by macerating and distilling the giant mizuao feces in spirits. In addition, the alcohol content was adjusted by using insect secret tea made from the feces of the great spotted flycatcher, bringing out the aroma of the two types of feces in different ways and finally merging them together. The fruity and rich aroma of cherry blossoms spreads in the mouth.
