This zine was created with Yoshiki Hayashi, who is involved in the " Small Earth " project in the Satoyama area of Kamanuma, Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture .
Late last year, we visited the rice terraces managed by Hayashi and his team, and were delighted to see the citrus trees lining the path from the rice terraces to the old house.
Shigenteki-GIN was born from the idea that this tree produces a lot of lemons and summer mandarins every year, but it is difficult to use them all, and the idea of making a distilled liquor to coincide with Hayashi's first solo exhibition.
The unusual title comes from the " Resource People Conference ," which is run by Hayashi and architect Tsukamoto Yoshiharu.
A resourceful person is a person It is the opposite of "human resources," and refers to someone who is able to extract resources such as food and energy from the environment around them using their own body, hands, and mind.
Following this example, we tried to create a resource-based gin by combining plants found in the area, such as lemons from Small Earth, a Japanese laurel tree given to us by a gardener, ginger from Mitosaya's fields, and hyssop from a seedling.
The refreshing notes of lemon and ginger are followed by the calming aromas of hops, hyssop, and Japanese knotweed, which is a cone from the same conifer as juniper, creating a special impression.
The striking blue drawing of the Earth was also created by Yoshiki Hayashi.

This gin was made with Yoshiki Hayashi, who runs the " small earth " project in the satoyama of Kamanuma, Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture.
When we visited the terraced rice paddies run by Mr. Hayashi and his team late last year, we were delighted to see a row of citrus trees lining the path from the terraced rice paddies to an old house.
The story of the abundance of lemons and tangerines that grow every year but are never fully used up and the idea of making a distilled spirit to coincide with Mr. Hayashi's first solo exhibition came together to create Shigenteki-GIN.
The unusual title comes from the "Resourceful People Conference" that Mr. Hayashi and architect Yoshiharu Tsukamoto and others have been conducting.
A resourceful person is someone who can extract resources such as food and energy from the environment around them using his or her body, hands, and mind.
Following this example, I made a resourceful gin by combining plants from around me, such as this lemon, kaidukaibuki (a type of Japanese flowering plant) shared with me by a gardener, ginger from mitosaya's field, and hyssop.
The refreshing lemon and ginger were followed by the woody, calming aroma of kaizukaibuki and hop, a coniferous ball fruit that is the same as juniper, giving it a special impression.
The striking blue earth drawing is also by Yoshiki Hayashi.
