ミツバハマゴウという植物をご存知でしょうか。シソ科であり、別名はプルプレアとも、ニンジンボクとも呼ばれているそうです。グレイッシュな葉の裏が薄紫というとても美しい色をしています。香りがとても独特で、葉を燃やして香煙を仏にささげた「浜香」が語源とも言われています。時が経つということは、こういったマニアックな香りや独特の味わいも、だんだん慣れ親しんでくるものなのですね。
水を一切使わず、庭の夏みかんのほろ苦い果汁のみを使用した贅沢なシロップ。ハマゴウの甘いような苦いような香りに、色文字の清々しい木の香り。
春のふわふわとした明るい空気の中で、このシロップの味わいは、じんわりと重たく、ほんのり苦い。浮き足立つ季節にこそ味わいたいように思います。
炭酸水や氷、またはお湯割りでも美味しくいただけます。

Have you ever heard of a plant called Mitsuba hamagou? It is a member of the Perilla family and is also known as purpurea or carrotbark. It has very beautiful grayish leaves with a light purple underside. It has a very unique fragrance, and is said to be derived from the word "hama-ko," meaning "fragrant incense," which was created by burning the leaves and offering the fragrant smoke to the Buddha. As time goes by, these maniacal scents and unique tastes gradually become familiar to us. This luxurious syrup uses no water at all, only the bittersweet juice of the garden's summer oranges. The sweet and bitter aroma of hamagou and the fresh woody scent of colored letters.
In the fluffy bright air of spring, the taste of this syrup is soft, heavy, and slightly bitter. It seems to me that this syrup should be savored only during the buoyant season.
It is also delicious with soda water, ice, or hot water.
